Top 3

Top 3

It has come to the top three – I can report that for the first time ever, I actually like EACH of the finalists. It has been a GREAT season and I really don’t care who wins BUT here is my breakdown:

Joshua SHOULD win – With the exception of one week, Joshua has given STELLAR performances week after week.

Jessica WILL win – she has Idol written all over her, she is like a toddler and tiaras kid- the singing version. She has proven she wants to win and will be a star

Phillip Phillips COULD win – with very few OUTSTANDING moments, PP has remained consistent WHILE doing it his way. With the biggest fan base of the remaining contestant – the ones who call – PP could get the win by calls alone

Three totally different voices, styles and presentations ANYONE could take this and each one deserves to be in the top 3.

Joshua –

#1 (I’d rather be blind) The judges gave him a blues number and he delivered once again. Joshua is da truth and will be a star.
Watch it here:

#2 (Imagine) Joshua’s choice – this kid out church-ed the Patti Labelle version. Very good!
Watch it here:

#3 (No more drama) Joshua Ledet will be BIGGER than any other non winner musically (Hudson’s Oscar is for acting). How can a dude out Mary – Mary J Blige? One of the BEST performances EVER on American Idol.
Watch him here:

Jessica –

#1 (My all) The judges gave her a Mariah cut and she brought the heat. It wasn’t as great as it could be but it was VERY good
Watch it here:

#2 (I don’t wanna miss a thing) Jessica has BALLS of steal. She chose one of Steven Tyler’s BIGGEST hits, to sing in front of Steven Tyler and sang it BETTER than Steven Tyler!! This show is OVER – just give Jessica Sanchez the crown and the sash and lets get to the party.
Watch her here:

#3 (I’ll be there) rut ro – This COULD have been great but the front runner tried to sing all of the jackson parts mixed with the Mariah and her duet partners part – oh no BUT..Its Jessica!
Watch it here:

Phillip Phillips-

#1 (Beggin) The judges gave him a song I never heard before but was perfect PP. A toe tapper that is consistent with what he has been giving us all season. A+

Watch it here:

#2 (Disease) PP chose matchbox 20 and Phillip tized it as usual.

Watch him here:

#3 (We’ve got tonight) Why they try to turn PP into something he aint. It was good but not the Phillip x2 that we have been enjoying for 5 months.

Watch him him:

Top 4

Top 4
Here we are at the TOP FOUR – now it gets CRAZY. I am VERY pleased that I like all four of the top four. I do not have a favorite. Now the show is clearly in the hands of the teens who have the time and energy to call and text for 2 hours.
So for me the judging is over and we are here for the entertainment for the next few weeks. The final four ride to the star studded finale.
Phillip Phillips:
Did I not pick PP from the beginning? He is NOT the typical IDOL contestant – now look at him.
Performance 1:
“Have you ever seen the rain” – From back to the middle – P2 has not changed his style one bit and it has carried him to the final 4. This performance was not one of his best but it was classic Phillip Phillips.
Watch it here:
Performance 2:
“Volcano” didn’t erupt for me but PP can’t hit a homerun EVERY time – just okay for me
Watch it here:

Hollie:
My underdawg favorite from the beginning.
Performance 1:
“Faithfully” – Idol has successfully created their next Carrie Underwood. Great song, great power and a wind machine – what else does she need.
Watch it here:
Performance 2:
“I cant make you love me” Sing yo song Hollie, this my favorite from her all season
Enjoy her here:

Jessica:
The winner – end of discussion
Performance 1:
“Steal away” Jessica singing the blues – okay! Nuff said.
Watch it here:
Performance 2:
“and I am telling you” There is really a big black woman in there screaming to get out. WHAT? There have only been 3 divas to pull off this song – Jennifer Holiday, Jennifer Hudson, Whitney and now Jessica Sanchez – My SECOND favorite performance of the night.
Enjoy it here:

Joshua:
One of my top two to take the title
Performance 1:
“You raise me up” Only he could “soulify a Josh Grobin song – VERY GOOD. I would spend $2 on this download. This kid works hard every week.
Performance 2:
“it’s a man’s world” WHAT?!!! My FAVORITE of the night!!!!!! James Brown, Robert Palmer and Usher mixed together – I will buy his record tomorrow. Joshua could be the biggest male IDOL contestant if he plays it right. A+++++++
He is daShiznit!

Top 7

Top 7: aka the MOST boring episode of the season.
Bland show, bland songs, bland mentor, bland duets...yawn.
This has to be a ploy by the producers to bore the audience enough to NOT vote - having a fan favorite fall to the bottom, thus having the judges use the "precious golden save" - reminding us that they may be still relevent.

Out of the 7 performances this week, only 3 stand out as great and are worth talking about (and one of my favs is not one of them)
- but I guess I MUST stay professional and do my job and make YOU judge for yourself.

Singing any song released in the past 2 years proved to me that I haven't listened to the radio in a long long time. Space was wasted on this week's mentor Akon again proving this as one of the WORST weeks of the season.

Skyar - a remake of former Idol Kelly Pickler - just okay
watch it here:

Colton - this performance seemed LONG but good
watch it here:

Jessica - one of the best of the night, no one knows this song ( I have the album and never played it)
Proof that Jessica can sing the phone book and make it to the next week
watch it here:

Joshua - the newly named "Man-tasia" saved the show from being deleted. My favorite performance from this years Grammys was Runaway from Bruno Mars  - Joshua's rendition was OUTSTANDING. The first time all season I rewinded the performance for a second look. The BEST of the night.
watch it here:

Hollie - it was good - I dont think it will keep her out of the bottom 3 again
watch it here:

Phillip Phillips - Just okay this week - he will ease in to top 5 ...but BORING (shocking I know) but he is allow a few bad weeks but not this close to the finale.
watch it here:

Elise is clearly reading my blog, last week I compared her to Gaga and this week she sings Gaga.....
So of course she is one of the top 3  of the week and will not be voted off easily
watch it here:

Bottom 2 maybe Hollie and Skylar...anyone else will be saved

Top 8: 80's night (and it feels alright)

Top 8
The best season in years, the best theme and of all the eleven seasons ......the best group over all. The 80s is my genre, confirmed by the fact that I knew the words to all 8 songs performed.
I would buy a mega mix with ALL of these studio versions.

Idol gave us ANOTHER great mentor with Gwen Stefani – I like her cause “she aint no Holla back girl”.

DeAndre: (I like it) Finally, DeAndre won me over. He did a GREAT job. El Debarge is gonna get PAID because D could release a cover album of all Debarge hits and sell. ..BUT he was in the bottom last week. Unless HeeJun’s fans all of the sudden like DeAndre – he (and his hair) is out.

Elis: (I want to know what love is) If Lady Gaga took off the drag she would be Elis. She’s a chart topper – this performance was as good as the original.  Not sure what the judges were complaining about (unless they already have the winner picked) Elis is ready.
Watch it here:

Phillip Phillips: (That’s all) It’s a shame he didn’t do Sussudio! PP does his thing, his way to solidify his place as this years originator. He will be Top 2 in May.
Watch it here:

Joshua: (if you know me by now) THE BEST OF THE NIGHT. The only person to take this song from Simply Red is Joshua. Great GREAT GREAT. Lutha Lutha Lutha!!!  I see a Joshua Ledet mega mix coming real soon.
Watch it here:

Jessica: (How will I know) Does she NEED to work the Whitney card? I don’t think so? She is great and this was just as good as the original. How many more Houston songs will Jessica choose before the finale?
Watch it here:

Hollie: (What a feeling) She had me at song choice. One of the first soundtracks I ever bought. A great total package – and a great tribute to the original, which I am now looking for.
Watch it here:
Colton: (Time after Time) Not a Colton fan but I HAVE to acknowledge this was one of the best remakes ever of this song (second to Patti LaBelle)
Watch it here:

Skylar: (Wind beneath my wings) I was SHOCKED she was in the bottom last week, and don’t see this song changing that. DeAndre was better this week. It was good but she may be back in danger this week.
Watch it here:

The DUETS

Joshua and Jessica – the BEST performance of the NIGHT!! Jessica sings Aretha Franklin?

Hollie and DeAndre aka “kids sing Pointer Sister”

Colton and Skylar, aka “Kids singing old peoples song”:

Phillip Phillips and Elis sing Tom Petty

Top 9: Idols tribute their IDOLS

Top 9
This week the kids performed songs from their own idols. The show pulled out a pop legend to counter balance the fakeness of last week’s Puffy. This week’s mentor is Stevie Nicks – rock queen.
Colton (Everything) He called it his favorite worship song. Well, we learn something new every day. I didn’t realize there were church songs that didn’t make you clap and stomp your feet. I thought it was more of a 80s rock ballad.  He is the best rocker in years and stays true each week. I guess the tears were legit but unnecessary – he will be back.
Watch here:
Skylar (Gunpowder and lead) What a song choice! Little red said “he ain’t seen crazy yet” and singing about shooting a man in the ass. I am actually scurrred. The backstory is lil Skylar is getting backlash for promoting deer hunting in her packages LOL. I like her for staying true country. I wouldn’t buy it – but I know someone who may get me to “find” a copy. She brings it every week. She could be the next Carrie Underwood.
Watch here:
HeeJun (A song for you) Play time is OVER for HeeJun. He got a new attitude with being close to getting the boot last week, Seeing someone MUCH better than he leave before him. He finally put the jokes in the trunk and coming to (try) to win. Even tho he sounded like he was gasping for air – he hit the right notes in the right spots – Convincing me that he should be in the top 10. It was the best he sang all season….He STILL aint gonna win, cause J.lo said she loves the funny..so it may slip back real soon.
Watch here:
Hollie (Jesus take the wheel) What a mentor moment when she made Stevie Nicks cry in rehersals – that’s what mentors are supposed to do – inspire. It’s always weird when the current contestants sing a hit from a previous Idol – too soon? It wasn’t her BEST performance but good.
Watch here:
DeAndre (Sometimes I cry) Nope! D is trying to bring back the Prince falsetto and nobody can ever out prince Prince Rogers Nelson. I didn’t like it. He made my ear hurt.  He got a standing O so clearly I am out of the loop.
Watch here:
Jessica (Sweet Dreams) A Plus – Jessica is back, taking a page from Phillip's book and slowed down a dance track. Unlike DeAndre – Jessica out Beyonce’ed a Bootayance jam. Blue Ivy’s mom better snatch that back for a remix.

Watch here:
Phillip Phillips (Still Raining) I didn’t this song it but it didn’t matter – he did his thang- YET AGAIN,  giving us one of the best of the night. Stevie Nicks kept saying he reminded her of her ex back in the day – so Phillip got the legend seal of approval… end the show right now – he is gonna make some cash.
Watch here:
Joshua (Without you)  BOUGHT IT! Yep, he is this only dude to take on the Mariah version. This kid aint no joke. He brought it this week.
Listen: (no video avail)
Elis (Whole lotta love) When did she become the rocker chick? We need a Pat Benatar night for Elis to shine even further. A+

Top 10: the Billy Joel songbook

This week the kids perform songs from the Billy idol songbook, dare I say wasted most it. I heard few songs I recognized which is half the work – so they better bring it.
The addition of Tommy Hilfigner is STUPID. I am not just saying that because the only “TH” I can get into is a watch. This is NOT a makeover show- talk about an obvious way to fill (waste) 2 hours.

The final nail was the mentor: Puff Diddy Daddy Combs aka J.Lo’s ex. ( anyone also notice the commercials for Q’viva with Ex- Marc Anthony…oh I wish Ben Affleck had a movie to promote – that would have been a PERFECT trifecta). I was so bored, I went to clean the bathroom.
This was not a great week over all but duty calls, see what I do for you people.

DeAndre: (Only the good die young) D’s hair can only carry him a few weeks and he will have to actually PERFORM every week. He did OKAY. Will okay…. get you into the top 5? The judges trying to tie the song title to the issue in Fla was a STRETCH. The boy aint THAT deep.
see DeAndre here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irnTVqlCzQs

Erica: (New York State of mind) Did they REALLY give this girl a total hair make over? Chopped most of it off and dyed her blonde hair BLACK..what show is this again? And did it make her SOUND better? This is when I checked out.....did it make her SOUND better? The fashion tips overshadowed why I was watching – for the songs. Now that they turned Erica into Kim and Chloe’s mom – we will see if it will keep her out of the bottom 3 this week. She always sounded great but did we notice?
see Erica here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bs8eVuMJ_m0
Joshua: (She’s got a way) The man is good – I don’t think it was a “wow” as the past 2 weeks but he can’t bring a 10 EVERY week.
see Joshua here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MC1HxhUjRUg
Skylar: (Shameless) The country girl did a country song – she remained in the middle for me. No bad but no wow factor for me. She will stay in the top 5 tho’.
see Skylar here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjnHqZB-xeg
Elis: (….Waits for you?) Don’t know this one and still not sure what the title is, but she was one of the best of the night. She has to find a way to get the old folks (ie:over 16) to vote. She  shockingly has been in the bottom for a few weeks and may be again. I like her and will buy her music.
see Elise here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4q9TVjwKGmI

Phillip Phillips: (Moving on) He is the man, he had me from day one . Thriller on guitar. P.P. aint thinking about no damn’d Tommy Hilfinger and WAS NOT GOING TO ME MADE OVER? Tommy actually turned into an IDOL judge and said he wont get votes with his drab grey outfit. P.P. flipped Tommy the virtual  bird and came out wearing grey, grey and more grey. Phillip reminded us what this show is SUPPOSED to be about …the MUSIC. He also told the producers that they wasted tons of money on Tommy cause nobody cool is wearing THAT in 2012. (except HeeJun) Another plus (not that he needed it) P.P. did not appreciate Diddy Sean trying to change his style AND seem PISSED that Sean Puffy wanted him to sing to groupies. The mentors also wanted no guitar.
So show time – Phillip Phillips did the song HIS way, with HIS guitar wearing HIS clothes. I think I want him to win on GENERAL. He made it this far…and he will FIGHT to the trophy ..go P.P.
see Phillip here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zYefaVj8JdM
Holly: (Honesty) I like this little soul sister but this week didn’t grab me. She does have one of the best voices tho…and was one of the best of the night.
see Hollie here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XASrjqXaKI
HeeJun: (My Life) Is a fool, is this American got Jokes? Making them laugh can only get him so far. He aint winning. Tommy took his logo and drapped him in it..and HeeJun fell for it. I have to say when Puff said “HeeJun is a con artist, I don’t even think he’s Asian” okay THAT was funny….almost as funny as his actual performance. Oh I wish Simon was still there. HeeJun would still be crying. Another funny moment .. When JLo got booed for telling the “TRUTH” HeeJun said “Don’t boo Jennifer Lopez” LOL Steven Tyler didn’t hold back “ You need to take it serious” I think he is outta here.
see HeeJun here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4o98SiZb7w
Jessica: (Everybody has a dream) Diddy mentoring singers? Telling her not to do tricks. Diddy who has NEVER sang a song without 100 hammer – style background dancers…to hide his singing? The performance was good but Jessica needs to bring back the Jessica from 2 weeks ago. She’s aint the solid winner anymore. She is still great tho'
see Jessica here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owohMFTOTwE
Colton: (Piano man) A red piano will get anyone’s attention. He did a good job. He was the best Billy Joel of the night. Good but not MY favorite.

Top 12..umm Top 11: year u were born theme

This week was overshadowed by the faux scandal of the warrants and the lies BUT the show MUST go on …and it did.

The Idols performed songs from the years they were born. This theme ALWAYS makes me sick, 1994? That was yesterday? I feel so much older than I am by the end of this episode, hence the delayed posting to the blog…but like them the show must go on.

I like the Blackeyed peas but Wil-I-am as a mentor doesn’t impress me. Although, I do like the idea of a celebrity mentor every week.

Phillip Phillips  (Hard to handle) – Performing with the killer kidney stones a few days earlier earns him a spot to the front. He proved he is a contenda’ and continued the show must go on montra. He was good and consistant and maintains his place as one of my top 5. He is doing his songs, his way.

Jessica (Turn the beat around) – This girl is great BUT her forte is the power ballad. She brought the show – the voice, the hair and the disco pants. Jessica is showing us that she wants to win this thing and will fight for it every week. She wasn’t my favorite of the week but surely my top three. Adding a little Bootaynce to her Gloria was a plus.
Watch it here:
HeeJune (Right here waiting) – I am not sure how far he can go being funny, cause he boy brings the funny. It sounded like he was gasping for air through the whole performance – just okay for me. Asking Wil for Fergie’s number WAS hellarious. No for Idol but maybe a comedy central spot.

Watch it here:

Elise ( Let’s stay together ) – She was so close to leaving last week, I see her fighting for her spot the rest of the season.
And fight she did the slow intro, then meshing into the power second half – Great. The Angelina one leg dress – great. The Obama clip singing the same song – great.

DeAndre (Endless Love) – Yeah, they pushed this as a Mariah/Luther hit because it was on the charts the year he was born – but anyone reading THIS blog better know who is the realZ deal. .. Diana Ross and Lionel Richie.  I give him points for the song choice but EVERYBODY cant turn a known duet into a solo performance.
Watch it here:

Shannon (One sweet day) –  My underdawg pick for the season !! This girl aint scared to the songs from the power divas. Great – I would buy it.

Watch it here:

Colton (Broken hearted) – This is the wrong stage of the show to sing songs nobody knows if you want votes. Ehh!

Watch it here:

Erika (Heaven) – great song choice!! I like her.
Jermaine Jones: You’re Fired (oops wrong show)
A warrant - issued by a judge authorzing arrest and detention of an individual.
If I had 1,2...5 warrants..would it be WISE to put my bigass on the NUMBER ONE television show IN THE WORLD? #just asking, is it me?
Back to the man purse - I was told it was highend. Ladies, does an YSL man bag go with a stiped polo and middle eastern scarf..
Just asking, how do I get answers if I dont ask.

I am still using a backpack given at a work conference from 2007..so I dont know about these thing.
The madness is here:

Skylar (Love sneaking up on me ) – Skylar watched the show last week when someone listened to the mentors to change the song and almost got booted. Not Skylar..she kept her choice. Skyar is so country. Just as good as last week. She will sail to the top 5 then it will get interesting.
Watch here:
Joshua (When a man loves a woman)
I should deduct points for the crawfish demo and NOT sucking the head c’mon – I know that much. Tied for my favorite of the week. He’s a PK- a preachers kid and continues to bring the church to American Idol. My download of the week - $1.25 from itunes. Taking off the jacket rivaled Jessica’s diva moment for the great tv moment of the night.
I came away deciding I need a new blue dress shirt like Joshua.Great great great…. New Lufa!!
Watch it here:

Hollie (Power of love) A+++
My favorite of the night. Seeing this little kid bring the power voice can not be denied. Give her the sash and the crown.

Who is going home? Elise was in the bottom last week maybe again and Maybe HeeJun (cause he aint THAT funny)

Scandal 2012.... whatever: update

http://www.thesmokinggun.com/documents/jermaine-jones-american-idol-arrests-769123

Really?

After ALL these years - kicking off Frenchie Davis for posing in her bra, The Corey/Paula affair, the twin bad boys arrested, the college girl going topless at the Vietnam memorial, Scott Brown's daughter...and the stripper.

We are NOW supposed to believe all of the background check cash goes to jLo's hair and makeup?

I smell a SET UP.. aint buying the shock and awe but we are talking hoping not for long.

American Idol Reportedly Disqualifies Jermaine Jones

by
Jermaine Jones, your journey ends Wednesday night. Or at least that appears to be the fate of the American Idol Season 11 finalist, who posted a message on his official Twitter account (@JJonesAI11) on Tuesday night that stated, “Awww I will no longer b on the show.” (The Tweet has since been deleted from Jones’ feed, but was liberally screen-grabbed and retweeted beforehand.)
The news of Jones’ ouster was seemingly broken by TMZ, which claimed that a contestant was being disqualified after producers learned he concealed the fact that he was arrested twice — once for a violent crime — and has outstanding warrants. And while a Fox spokesperson declined to comment on this story, TMZ went on to name Jones as the singer in question, saying that he will appear on Wednesday’s live performance telecast before his ejection from the competition.
All this has me wondering: If Jones really does get the boot, will Idol producers bring back an eliminated hopeful to take his place? Or will Thursday night’s results show just turn out to be a kumbaya, “everyone is safe!” affair? And if an already evicted singer gets a new lease on life, who will it be.  Stay tuned.

Top 13: Whitney/Stevie week

The top 13 celebrated the 400th episode with a dual – the boys vs the girls, performing different themes with Mary J as a mentor – they should use her every week.

Boy: Stevie Wonder and the Girls: Whitney Houston.

Editors note: Before I even begin, the girls don’t have a chance – yes, the sympathy/tribute will be great tv but with contestants being told to NEVER bring the Whitney unless they can capture a “10” including Jennifer Lopez..it’s gonna be interesting.

Joshua (I wish) – One of my favorite Stevie songs of all time and Joshua delivered, he brought the church to Idol and gave us a show. One of my top 4 favorites to take it all.

Elise (Im your baby tonight) – Jimmy set her up, made a change and gave her a song she didn’t know, couldn’t feel and didn’t get – and she will be gone.

Jermaine (knock me off my feet) – I don’t agree with this return pick, so many others were much better but he had a story…and cried. Eeh, I wouldn’t buy it or play it again after today.

Erika (I believe in you and me) – setup part 2, Jennifer Hudson’s version played in a commercial 5 minutes earlier. Luckily, Erika changed it up a lot and did a very good job.

Colton (lately) – rocker doing soul = just aight

Shannon (I have nothing) – One of Whitney hardest songs to cover EVER. I thought she nailed it ( the judges didn’t ) I will be voting for Shannon because she got unjustly panned.  Not the best of the night but FAR from the worst.

DeAndre (Masterblaster) – he just copied Stevie’s version – but he was in tune and did a good job. Downloadable.

Skylar (Where do broken hearts) – This little country girl has some soul. I see her making the top 2 easy. Love her countrified version. She’s like a little Reba McEntire – one to watch.

HeeJun (All is fair) – Still shocked he made it THIS far, he does bring the jokes to the show – goofyass. He wasn’t bad – He aint gonna make top 5 but this was a decent performance.

Hollie (All the man I need)- One of my favorites of the night- power vocals. One of Whitney’s greatest songs and she was very good

Jeremy (Ribbon in the sky) – wildcard picks and knows he is on the chopping block. I want to pick him as my underdawg but it was a little weak especially sandwiched between the power girls. He may be in trouble and JLo wont be able to save him twice.

Jessica (I will always love you) – She thinks she won this show already, and she may have. I thought she was better last week but Jessica did a great job. Not standing ovation great, not better than Jennifer Hudson great but I liked it. One of the best of the night tho.

Phillip Phillips (Superstition) – there is only one, ORIGINAL and fresh. Very good.
